THE ARCHBISHOP CURLEY HIGH SCHOOL CHOIRS WELCOME YOU
WHO WE ARE
Archbishop Curley High School is a Roman Catholic college preparatory high school located in northeast Baltimore City, almost directly adjacent to I-95. The school was founded in 1961 and is owned by the Archdiocese of Baltimore and, since its founding, has been operated by the Conventual Franciscan Friars. The student body is comprised of approximately 550 male students in grades 9 through 12.
The Curley Choral Program was begun in 1996 with four students, experienced phenomenal growth and has for many years included well over 140 students. On the average, only 3-4% of students enrolled in the Curley Choral Program have had any prior choral experience before coming to Curley.
The Curley Choral Program presently includes four performing ensembles:
The Curley Choir which includes all choristers who are current students at the school.
The Curley Schola, a smaller ensemble which includes choristers who are invited to have the opportunity to perform more challenging music and to perform on a more frequent basis.
The Luminare Choir which includes selected alumni choristers and selected choristers who are current students.
The Curley Ringers, the school's resident handbell ensemble.
FROM THE CHOIRMASTER. . .
A message from the Choirmaster:
New choristers are rapidly learning their craft as singers, assisted by our veteran choristers. Equally gratifying, multiple new choristers have joined the Curley choir since the first day of classes. With continued hard work, we can look forward to solid performances from the choir in the months to come.
This week sees the commencement of Wednesday morning rehearsals including ONLY freshmen choristers who are not members of the Curley Schola. This regimine is designed to provide new choristers with extra support that will enable them to more quickly master the skill necessary for effective singing. Like all morning rehearsals, these rehearsals will begin at 7:35 A.M. and conclude at 8:10 A.M. (On the "This Week's Events" section of the Curley Choir Weekly Bulletins these rehearsals are color-coded in green for ease of reference.)
Parents/guardians of all Curley Choir choristers are invited to attend the Curley "C Notes" Wine & Cheese reception that will be held in Curley's Student Dining Room (SDR) beginning at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 22. Featured will be brief presentations showcasing the work of the "C Notes", our parent organization that supports the work of Curley's performing ensembles and the ways in which parent/guardian volunteers are able to assist in this mission. A brief "break-out" session for parents/guardians of Curley Choir choristers will follow in the choir room. This session will feature a brief presentation explaining all aspects of the Curley choral program. Please consider joining us!
